PUFFING BILLY IN THE MODERN ERA

The Puffing Billy Railway has come a long way from its humble beginnings in the mid 1950s, when preservationists saved the line from oblivion and began running excursion trains out of Upper Ferntree Gully. Half a century later, the face of the railway has changed beyond recognition. Ever increasing patronage and seven day a week running has required more locomotives and rolling stock.

The last two decades have witnessed the fulfillment of the Puffing Billy Preservation Society’s most ambitious dreams – returning trains to Gembrook, and the much anticipated rebuild of Beyer Garratt locomotive G42.

Puffing Billy in the Modern Era takes us on a photographic journey through this world famous railway in recent times. Photographed and produced by Nick Anchen, this 96 page full colour book features a variety of images capturing the many different moods and aspects of one of Australia’s most fascinating railways.
